Josh Grimes was a long time Member of the REBELS Auto Club. His pride and joy was a beautiful 1972 Ford LTD which he kept in mint condition.
Josh suffered from Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare childhood form of cancer, which he battled heroically for more than two years. He passed away on March 24th of 2006. The REBELS voted unanimously to make Josh an honorary Member of the Club.
The Josh Grimes Memorial was actually the brainchild of Tommy Bender, a Debate Instructor at Southeast High School in Lincoln and a REBELS Member. Josh was one of Tommy’s students and both shared their love of cars.
Bender approached the REBELS to ask for help and support in rebuilding a car to raffle off to start a Memorial in Josh’s name. The Club Members voted, again unanimously to help where they could.
Bender subsequently located two 1966 Mustang GT Convertibles in Iowa. He brought them back to Lincoln and immediately began to combine the two into a “frame up” restoration of one classic vehicle. Through the generous help of Lincoln Southeast High School students, REBELS Members and Josh’s Grandfather Larry Wentink, the car was completed in late 2008.
Again with help from the REBELS, the car was auctioned off and the money used to start the Josh Grimes Memorial Scholarship fund.
