Giving Back...

In the fall of 1955, 30 young men gathered to form an auto club, which they named the Rebels of Lincoln.  Today, the REBELS Auto Club is the largest car club in Lincoln, with over 150 members.

In April of 1960, the REBELS received national recognition in Hot Rod magazine. They were featured as the “Club of the Month”.  It was an outstanding achievement to be recognized by such a popular magazine.

Today the REBELS Auto Club is going strong.  They held their 14th annual car show in Pioneers Park in June with over 130 cars participating.  The REBELS members attend nearly all of the local car shows and Good Guys car shows in Des Moines and Kansas City.  They have been involved in raising money by volunteering for the Rocky Manginelli Swap Meet, the National SOLO and SCCA Cone Races, and other events.

We are proud to say the REBELS are still giving back to the community.  This past month, donations of $500 were given to the Lincoln Food Bank, Peoples City Mission, Clinic with a Heart and $200 to the SE Nebraska Cancer Center.  REBELS members put together packages for our troops several times a year.

Each year, the REBELS give $500 scholarships to Southeast Community College students at the Milford and Lincoln Campuses.  The scholarship requirements demand certain criteria and are generally given to students in the Automotive and Auto Body Technology programs. This year, the REBELS will be able to offer 4 scholarships, 2 to the Lincoln Campus and 2 to the Milford Campus.

Cary Petersen, President of the REBELS, says “This is a great time to be a part of the REBELS organization.  One of the main reasons that drew me to the club was their “giving” nature.  We hope to be able to continue this tradition every year.  Another great advantage to being a member is the networking of its members.  With our experience, we will help you find parts, cars and technical help.”

The REBELS are also excited about their new web site www.rebelsautoclub.com. The website was developed and is maintained by a club member.  The REBELS website allows you to view all of the club events, car club photos, club newsletter, a classified ad section, and much more.  You can also find a club membership application form online.  The Rebels is open to all cars and trucks of any year, including people who just have the love for cars.

Let us know online if you are interested in becoming a Member or just learning more about the REBELS Auto Club of Lincoln.
